Linden tree sprout

Asked June 12, 2018, 9:56 PM EDT

I think a linden tree sprouted up in my yard last year. Unfortunately, it is close to my foundation. How and when can I move it? Thank you, Thomas in Westminster, co

Thomas, I agree it is a Linden that has sprouted. You can move it anytime from now till fall. If you do it now, the tree will have time to reestablish in its new location before it goes dormant in the fall. A word of caution, Japanese Beetles love linden trees, so if you keep the tree, you could have a problem with Japanese Beetles eating it. If there are enough of them they can seriously damage or kill the tree. While the tree is small, you can pick the beetles off and drop them into a bucket of soapy water. If the tree gets large, it would require spraying the tree to try and control the beetles.
