Thank you for contacting us,

It's hard to tell what might be going on from this picture. There appear to be some streaks in the stem that might indicate a disease, but without seeing them first-hand, it's impossible for us to know.

If you can bring some samples into our clinic, we may be able to give you a better answer and some ideas for solving or managing the issue. If you are able to do this, a useful sample for us includes parts of the plant showing symptoms and healthy tissue. If we can see the transition between damaged and healthy tissue, that gives us our best chance of identification.

Our clinic is in Spokane at 222 North Havana St, just south of the fairgrounds and baseball stadium. The office is open 9-5 weekdays, but our Master Gardeners are in the clinic from 9am-3pm, Mon-Thurs. 9am-1pm on Friday, and 9am-noon on Saturdays. (Saturdays through September only.) If you have any questions, you can email directly to mastergardener@spokanecounty.org or call 509-477-2181.

We hope we can help you solve this problem!
