Wasp nests in trees aren’t necessarily dangerous. If a nest is high in a tree, it may be allowed to remain until the colony naturally dies on its own. After that, the nest will disintegrate when thoroughly moistened by winter rainfall. See “Yellowjackets and Other Social Wasps” - http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7450.html.

But if the nest is low enough to pose a threat to passers-by, it is wise to hire a professional pest control company to remove it. You may need to call around because not all such companies do this sort of work. “Selecting a Pest Control Company” (http://npic.orst.edu/pest/selectpco.html) provides some advice
