strange attachments to young (4 foot) maple

I have attached a photo of the leaves of a maple we planted last year. Can you help me with what is all over the leaves? I'd like to save this tree. The growths/bugs are pretty small, but not tiny. They are between 1-4 mm. Thank you!

These are galls, often caused by insects. Leaf galls are not harmful to your tree. Here is info from our website:
