blue spruce

Asked June 6, 2018, 6:53 PM EDT

approx 5 years ago we moved some rather large spruces to the north side of our property. 2 of those trees died and now there is about 3 more that are concerning me. The trees initially looked great now the last 2 years the inside of the trees have become thin- bottom to the top. Brown needles noted to the inside of the tree. however, this year there is new needle growth on the outside/tips of the trees- bottom to top. The rest of the trees that were transplanted at the same time look great. Any answers? The trees came from a tree farm in our same county- approx 3 miles from our house.

Colorado Blue Spruce do not do well in Minnesota. It is quite possible that they may have needle cast disease. Here is a link that talks about what it is and what you can do.
