Organic control for Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD)

Asked June 2, 2018, 5:32 PM EDT

I have followed the recommendation of keeping fruit picked and cleaning up the beds. I have used traps for 2 years. I am now wondering what the next step in the battle of controlling SWD would be. Organic options please.... Thank You!

After monitoring and good sanitation, the only viable option for you (if you are in a zone where you will get consistent SWD damage) is pesticide application. There is one effective organically approved product you can use (spinosad based) Entrust but you will need to determine if you need a pesticide applicators license and follow the label use. Pyganic (also approved for organic farms) is a less effective option, but it may help you with your product rotation if you want to avoid resistance and your pest pressure is not out of control.
