Varigated Cultivar or Serious Disease

Asked June 2, 2018, 12:32 PM EDT

Not sure what this hedge shrub is called, but I am noticing an inconsistent varigation. Since it is not persistent throughout, I began to suspect a serious disease problem. Ideas? Thanks.

This is a Euonymus shrub and what you see is a natural genetic mutation called a "sport" or chimera. It is not a disease. You can read about chimeras at the following links: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=259
