Hi, I was given this bonsai as a gift at Christmas but it was pretty much dead when I got it all the leaves were brown and falling off. I have tried to revive it and am getting lots of new shoots in all different directions. I have recently pruned it right back but I’m not sure how to proceed! Can you identify what the species is and give me any care advice please? Much appreciated

Thanks for your question. Without knowing what country you're in, it is difficult to give you a positive identification of the plant, but its leaf shape and placement on the branches would indicate it is an alder (Alnus). Here is a link to an article on its care as a bonsai plant. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
