Coyotes and pets

Asked May 31, 2018, 2:51 PM EDT

Hello, I am building a home that backs to a wetlands/wildlife habitat. Currently there is a coral type fence bordering my property. I have two small dogs that are inside except to potty in the back yard. I don't leave food outside. How do I keep the coyotes out of my back yard when my dogs are out back? Thanks

One solution is to build a fully enclosed dog run for unsupervised potty & exercise time. If you want to be able to let the dogs range throughout your yard without supervision however, you will likely need to build a welded wire fence and I would recommend using an electrical top wire. If you build the fence, remember to pay attention to the bottom - Coyotes and other animals are very good at exploiting little gaps and squeezing under.
