New plant in my garden

Asked May 30, 2018, 9:38 PM EDT

Would you please identify this plant for me? It has appeared in great numbers in my perennial border this spring and I've had no luck with online searches nor my online friends to find out what it is and learn more about it. I thought it might be related to Jack in the Pulpit. Thank you very much.

The plant is Pinellia ternata, also known as crowdipper. It grows from a corm, and spreads by rhizomes. It is very difficult to control. Constant vigilance and digging out can help, as can herbicides that contain the active ingredient triclopyr, such as Ortho Brush-B-Gon Poison Ivy Killer. Use it with care because it could damage plants you value.
