sugar maple tree looks bad

Asked May 30, 2018, 3:27 PM EDT

my sugar maple tree is approx.10 years old... it leafed out normally(leaves seem small though) this spring but approx. 3 weeks ago some of the leaves started turning brown, now all are curled up and brown.
they didn't turn yellow or black, just a uniform brown.
rainfall is normal here, not overly hot and i see no damage to tree or insect... tree has been very slow growing and is 6 inches or less at trunk.
not sure what to do?

I'm sorry, I tried answering this last week and it didn't go through for some reason. We have been seeing a variety of problems with maples this year so I can't guess what it going on with yours without seeing some pictures. Can you take some pictures of the leaves and the whole tree? Or take some in to your local extension office in Perryville? Then hopefully we can help you determine what is going on and what your options are.
