Remove trunk river birch clump

Asked May 29, 2018, 7:02 AM EDT

I have a young river birch with 5 trunks and I think we should remove one of the trunks before it gets too large. Can this be done? If so, how?

Yes you can remove one stem. Carefully choose the one to be removed and then cut if off close to the base. You shouldn't have to apply pruning paint but allow it to seal off naturally.
