Wet soil

Asked May 21, 2018, 10:53 AM EDT

I was planning on putting in my garden last week using some bedding plants and seeds. The rain prevented any work and now the soil is so saturated, I am wondering if it is safe to plant or if everything will just rot. Also I have some French tarragon in a pot that is totally waterlogged despite drainage holes. Should I repot it with dry soil in a new pot?

If the soil is too wet, the plants can be susceptible to root rots. Do not plant in soggy soil. One test is to form a clump of your soil into a ball. Bounce it up and down in your hand a few times. If it breaks apart easily it’s probably OK to dig!

It is okay to replant your tarragon in new soil in another pot.
