Spruce Tree Disease

Asked May 16, 2018, 9:20 AM EDT

Hi! I live in Wright. My spruce trees are showing signs of some type of disease. The needles are turning brown and falling off, from the inside of the tree. The new needle buds look fine. Attached are photos. Any ideas?

From your photos it appears your Spruce have Rhizosophaera Needle Cast. It is fungus that readily affects Spruce in the Midwest. If you notice this early there is a treatment that can be applied. It looks as though your tree/s are highly effected. I would recommend you have an arborist from a local tree care company come and take a look at them. http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/spruce-tree-diseases/rhizosphaera-needle-cast/index.html
