Minor Trimming on Oak Tree

Asked May 15, 2018, 11:14 PM EDT

I have an oak tree that is touching some wires connected to my home. The new buyers of my house would like me to trim back that one branch. Is it okay to trim the oak tree a very small amount at this time of year (mid May)?

It is preferred not to prune Oaks from April until fall. This is to prevent open wounds that would make them more succeptable to insects and disease. Below is a link to pruning trees. It addresses steps you can take to protect the tree if you need to prune outside of the recommended time. https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/pruning-trees-shrubs/#timing
