Dc native plant?

Asked May 15, 2018, 6:32 PM EDT

I threw some DC native seeds into my garden at our new house and a bunch of these fast growing stalks have come up. I’m not sure if this was part of the seed packet or not or maybe something that sprouted w the original garden. It has grown a foot in the last week and started twisting with anything it can find. In one case another plant type that was already here. In another case with its fellow species. And yet another case with our gate. Just wondering what it is as I haven’t been able to find the answer.

District of Columbia County District of Columbia plant identification bindweed

This is definitely not a native plant but looks like a weed called bindweed. This weed is very difficult to eradicate from a garden. Please see the following information,

Start to control it now. Pull it out anytime that you see it.
