Spraying for black spot

Asked May 14, 2018, 9:31 PM EDT

Last year I bought 2 Apple trees. The Fuji developed black spot. The other did not. I also bought another Apple tree , it has yet to be planted and is far away from the other two in a pot. All are just starting to leaf out within the last week or so . I was wondering when to spray and what to spray. I have a pump sprayer. So I can mix a concentrate with water.

There are a few pathogens that can cause spots on Apple tree leaves. It is important to know what is causing them so you know what treatment and timing of treatment is best. Below is a link that details symptoms and has pictures. Apple Scab is a prevaliant disease on Apple trees. It is caused by a fungus and lives on affected leaves, fruit and branches through our winter. If this is what your tree has make sure and clean up all debris thoroughly the season. Fungicides are used to treat Apple Scab. I have also attached a link below that details care and treatment of Apple trees based on what identified pest or disease they may have. https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/fruit/apple/leavesspots.html https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/fruit/apple-pest-management/
