Is this the right time of year to spray blackberries?Should you mow them first?
Clackamas County Oregon
The best time to treat blackberry with herbicides is in the fall during cooler weather immediately prior to coloration and leaf drop. There are a number of herbicides including glyphosate, triclopyr, triclopyr + 2,4-D, and metsulfuron, that are effective during this application window. It is not necessary to mow blackberry prior to treatment, but you may certainly want to mow them for other reasons if you wish if they are getting too large or are trying to limit seed production.
