Shade loving perennials with a flower?

Asked May 14, 2018, 8:47 AM EDT

I have a new raised planter off my front porch. It gets mostly shade, a little sun in the late afternoon and very early morning. I plan to use some coleus for height and would like some suggestions for a perennial with a flower and color. Thank you!

Below is a link listing tall perennials for the shade. Some shorter ones to try are; Astilbe, Cordaylis, Pulmonaria, Dicentra and Hostas. While there is no bloom the Japanese Painted Fern has beautiful color and texture for a shade garden. https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/landscaping/best-plants-for-tough-sites/docs/08464-shade-tall-perennials.pdf
