Fertilizing strawberries in the spring.

Asked May 1, 2018, 9:13 PM EDT

What, if any, fertilizer should we use on our strawberry plants now (May 1st)?
We have two rows roughly 100 feet long by 2 feet wide.

Thanks much, Perry

For June bearing strawberries, we do not recommend spring fertilization.
Fertilize your strawberries after the fruiting season at renovation.
You can also apply in the early fall after Labor Day.
We recommend approximately 2 to 3 lbs of a 10% nitrogen fertilizer blend per 100 feet of row. Depending on the soil you may need to apply potash as well, but that recommendation would depend on soil levels so you should do a soil test.
You could use a complete lawn fertilizer but be sure it is not a weed and feed formulation with an herbicide included.
