Running Bamboo is dying

Asked May 1, 2018, 6:58 PM EDT

My area of running bamboo in back yard seems to be dying off. It's fairly contained by concrete and heavy slate, so it's all in about a five foot by 12 foot area. It's been there for maybe 12/15 years.
Is it that the roots have packed themselves together and it's strangling itself? Could it be some kind of poison?

Thank you for your question. I suspect that root compression is the problem with your bamboo, since they often grow 2.5 to 5 feet (horizontally) a year. On the other hand, it could be poison (especially if its rhizomes made it to your neighbor's property), since it is considered an invasive plant and someone might not have liked it! (But I think the better bet is that it is a plant in the wrong place.) Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
