Pocket Gopher

Asked May 1, 2018, 12:36 PM EDT

Hello, We live on 5 acres in west Eugene and have a pocket gopher problem. Our neighbors have their whole pasture full of them and they are now coming over to our fields and I am worried our livestock will step in a hole and break a leg. What can be done to get rid of these gophers? Would tilling up both of our pastures get rid of them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Soil cultivation is one way to destroy pocket gopher habitat and smooth out your soil to prevent livestock injury. Please take a look at this publication that goes into depth about pocket gopher and vole management including other methods such as trapping and baiting: Meadow Voles and Pocket Gophers: Management in Lawns, Gardens, and Cropland
