Fig Trees

Asked April 30, 2018, 5:35 PM EDT

My two fig trees in the front of house did not break bud yet... April 30, 2018 Should I prune the old wood back? My fig in the back is budding.

We recommend that you do a simple test to see if there is live tissue in the branches that haven't developed buds yet. With your fingernail, scrape away a small section of the outer bark. If you see green tissue underneath, the branch is still alive. If there is no green, it is dead and you can prune the branch. Take a look at our brief video on figs: https://youtu.be/gAr6PcJEtBE
