Peas not sprouting

Asked April 29, 2018, 7:20 PM EDT

I planted my peas late this year, around mid-April. There is still no sign of them. If they haven't sprouted by early May, will it be too late to try another planting? Would it help if I soak the seeds before planting?

Soils have been cool and seed germination is delayed when soil temperatures are below 40 degrees F. Late crops are more likely to suffer from heat stress. It is getting late to plant peas. It is up to you if you want to experiment and/or
pre germinate the seeds. See our profile on peas http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/plants/green-peas
