Chipmunk in the backyard

Asked April 27, 2018, 9:05 AM EDT

What is the best way to discourage the chipmunk from a tunnel that she has already established? The little critter has an escape hole where we will set up our hose and overall not in a good place. Will it be harmful for the Chipmunk if we completely seal off this well established hole? I want to encourage urban wildlife. Thank you.

Presuming that no young are present, closing the tunnel at this time of year will not harm the chipmunk but it will probably try to reopen the burrow until one of you abandon the contest. If you prevail, the chipmunk is likely to dig another burrow nearby.
