Green ash tree

Asked April 26, 2018, 8:46 PM EDT

Hi, I have a green ash tree in front of my house. I know a little about the emerald ash borer; yesterday morning I noticed a woodpecker knocking on the tree and eating something. Is there, or could there be a connection?

Yes, there absolutely could be a connection between seeing a woodpecker working on an Ash tree and the invasive Emerald Ash Borer. It is often one of the first things that people notice.
EAB is well-established in the Baltimore area, and most Ash will die unless relatively healthy specimen trees are repeatedly protected with pesticides.
