Gardening in a condo?

Asked April 24, 2018, 11:33 AM EDT

My mom is older and has recently moved out of her home and into a condo in downtown Minneapolis. She has a 3 season porch and sun for a few hours a day. Any ideas about how she can continue to garden or interact with nature?

If she had potted plants before she moved she can have them in the 3 season porch. They could be indoor houseplants if she has room to take them into the house during winter. They could be a potted annual such as impatiens in a pot to provide some color all summer. She would probably have better luck with plants that do not need full sun unless she really gets strong light all day long. She could put a bird feeder out with black oil sunflowers or thistle seed if she enjoys birds and that is allowed. She could probably even grow a little lettuce in a pot or some herbs is she enjoys them.
