I have a cedar tree in my yard, which has quite a bit of rust on it. Can you recommend treatment options for rust? There is another, younger cedar next to the infected tree - I am checking for rust on that tree. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
Cedar apple rust is very difficult to control. Unfortunately, there is not an effective treatment for rust on cedars. Treatment is available to control the disease on apples. If you have any pomaceous fruit trees (apples) in the vicinity, removing them can help to control the disease -- but this might not be desirable nor practical. You can handpick and destroy the cedar galls (generally before April 1 is best) and this will help to reduce the spread of the fungal spores. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/rust-diseases-trees-and-shrubs.
