Moles tunneling my hole yard.

Asked April 15, 2018, 12:13 PM EDT

How to rid the yard of moles. I have tried gummy bears and gum. There are so many holes, some Seem like small holes, others seem to be real hole leading to tunnel. Would there be a enter and exit hole? Hope you can help. Thank you.

Moles have raised tunnels. If you do not see this, then you probably have something else. You may have voles, too.

You can really only get rid of moles with harpoon traps. Please read through our webpage on mole and mole control: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/moles-lawns

Moles are beneficial because they aerate the soil (let air in) and also eat pest insects such as Japanese beetle grubs. (No. grub control will not make moles leave--they just eat something else.)

Often, the best thing to do is simply let them leave when they are ready. They usually do not stick around too long.

You can get information about voles (which are much more destructive that moles) here: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/voles
