I have a home in Newport on the coast and would like to put up a few owl boxes. What type should I use? Should I buy them or make them myself? Thank you very much! Elizabeth

Nest box size and design varies a bit with species. For example, there's a plan for a box that will fit kestrels or western screech owls here https://70birds.com/birdhouse-plans-index/screech-owl-kestrel-barrows-goldeneye/ and a super-informative set of plans for barn owl boxes here http://www.scvas.org/pdf/cbrp/BuildingBarnOwlBoxes.pdf Great horned owls use platforms https://70birds.com/birdhouse-plans-index/great-horned-owl-red-tailed-hawk-platform/
The question of whether to build or buy is up to you in terms of what tools, resources, and time you have to devote to the project.
