Weed killer

Is there a safe, effective product that will kill weeds. It must be safe for cats and humans. Thank you.

Hi there - It depends on so many things. What kind of weeds? Where?

First, no weed killer is 100% safe. You can find products that are low in toxicity by looking for a product with a signal word (on the label, all caps) of CAUTION. If the label says WARNING or DANGER, then the product is higher in toxicity.

Around the home, you can minimize risk by keeping people and pets away from the application area until the product has a chance to dry thoroughly. Many product labels will have specific instructions about how to keep the risk low. Follow the label, it's the law!

You may read online about using vinegar or soap or salt... those can be just as dangerous (or more!) as labeled herbicide products. Please use caution. I strongly recommend against home remedies.

There's always the good old fashioned approach of pulling weeds by hand and using mulch to suppress weeds.

Feel free to send follow-up questions, as needed. Best of luck!
