Hello I am interested in making a home for bees in a board. I will drill 5/16” holes for them. I am concerned about the mites that can live in the holes and hurt the bees. Should I still do it? Thank you

Yes, you should go ahead an make your bee nest. However, there is some maintenance that needs to be done at the end of the season. Please see pages 4-5 of the following publication,

This will explain what needs to be done to protect the bees from parasites and disease problems.
