Springtime Overseeding

Asked April 9, 2018, 2:47 PM EDT

My grass is healthy but thin. I'd like to get a fuller/thicker grass and heard that overselling is a great way to accomplish this. The lawn will be aerated soon, but it's not scheduled yet. When should I overseed in the Spring? Should I fertilize before, after, or during? Should I water more frequently during this process? How quickly should I expect to see results?

Thanks for the help.

Overseeding right after you aerate is perfect timing. Here's some information to help you: http://planttalk.colostate.edu/topics/lawns/1516-seeding-lawn/

One note, do not apply a fertilizer product with a 'pre-emergent' on your lawn this year while you are overseeding. The point of applying a pre-emergent is to kill weed seedlings in the lawn but it also will kill your new grass seedlings.
