Landscaping for Erosion Control

Asked April 8, 2018, 6:04 PM EDT

I live on the St Joseph River with about 180 foot frontage, in Berrien County. I have a heavily wooded, steep slope to the river in which i will be losing a significant amount of soil due to erosion into the river. The trees appear healthy and are still growing straight up, however, there is no or limited vegetation growth on the soil surface. My questions: 1. Should i thin out the 2-3inch diameter, trees to allow sunlight to filter to the base floor to enable plant growth? 2. Should i plant ground cover/grass and what type would do well in sandy type soil. 3. What other suggestions could you provide to help slow down the erosion? thanks, David Leonard 3174187491
