Last seasons spud

Asked March 28, 2018, 6:20 PM EDT

Hi there...I have some red potatoes I grew last season. I had forgotten about them and wanted to try and replant them. However they have these bulb looking things on them. Could these possibly be “true potatoe seeds”? Do I need to take the bulbs off first and then plant the chitted potatoes or is it ok to leave as is? Thanks, Rebecca

They could be seed if those potatoes happen to bloom since this is where the seed would come from (the blooms). They are bulb like or round like a capsule for seed of the potato. I would remove them and plant the chit for a plant that you know will grow to a red potato.
