Mulberry tree selection and source

Asked March 19, 2018, 12:10 PM EDT

Hello, I'm looking for a mulberry tree mainly as a decoy tree for my cherry trees. I'm looking for a good source of a healthy tree and would like to know recommended varieties for this area. I follow organic and IPM practices, And the sand not interested in spraying harmful chemicals. Also, will a mulberry grow sufficiently with partial morning shade? Thank you

We don't have recommended varieties for mulberry trees. There are many vigorous varieties on the market, but they are not native and, unfortunately, the non-native mulberry is considered invasive in Maryland. Obviously, it grows really well here, and partial morning shade is no problem.
