My neighbor just told me it's a box elder beetle. How do I get rid of them?

I have beetles all over my Ponderosa pine tree... I'm very worried and don't want them to harm the tree. I have full southern exposure with a parking lot on one side and a house foundation 10 feet away on the other side. It's approximately 3 feet in diameter.

Yes, it’s a box elder bug. Even so, you can relax.

Those bugs are simply hanging out in the pine until the weathers warms a bit more. They don’t feed on pines. Instead, they feed on the seeds of certain maple trees which are also called box elder trees. Beyond that, they are often a serious nuisance when they migrate indoors during the fall and winter.
