Where can I find clay soil?

Asked March 8, 2018, 9:54 PM EST

Hello, My son is creating a levee for his 5th grade science project. I live in the Anne Arundel County area and discovered that our soil at home is loamy sand according to the USDA website soil map survey. Would any one be able to help me locate clay soil in the county or surrounding areas (purchase from a vendor or dig it up). Please get back at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

Parts of Anne Arundel County are in the Coastal Plain, which gives way to the Piedmont area as it approaches the counties to the west, which is more likely to have more clay.
We suggest you contact your county Soil Conservation Office, who would be very familiar with the soils in your area. Here is a page that lists them: https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/main/md/contact/local/#AA
