Iris Morea pruning

Asked March 6, 2018, 11:26 AM EST

I live in Austin Texas and I have a huge (4'x4'x4') Iris Morea in my front yard. Most of the leaves are brown and I was wondering how to prune it. Do I cut it down to fairly low to the ground or do I just try and "remove" as many dead leaves as I can?

From the picture you sent, it appears that best course of action would be cut it down to the ground level . You then may also wish to remove as many dead leaves as you can. This will allow the plant to get air and rejuvenate itself. Water and fertilize the cut plant with a balanced fertilizer, following manufacturer label rates, to help promote new growth. These steps should give your plant a new lease on life.
