Information about raising Paw Paw trees

Asked March 2, 2018, 11:05 AM EST

I am taking the Master Gardener course at Chesapeake College. As a group project we would like to present information about Paw Paw trees. I actually am growing some on my property. We would like to know if you would be able to direct us or you can supply us with information. Also, we would like to know if free seedlings are available. Susan

Thank you for your interest in our native paw paw trees! Here are a few resources you can use to find a seedlings and information.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resource maintains a list of nurseries that supply native trees http://dnr.maryland.gov/forests/Pages/nurseries.aspx as does the Maryland Native Plant Society https://www.mdflora.org/nurseries.html. We do not know if any of the nurseries would provide discounted or free seedlings for educational purposes. You would have to ask. Another source for paw paws would be an online retailer like Edible Landscaping.

Kentucky State University is a leader in research on paw paws and may be a good resource for growing information. http://kysu.edu/academics/cafsss/pawpaw/
