Radon and gardens

Asked March 1, 2018, 11:36 PM EST

Hi, we just bought a house with extremely high level of radon. We installed a radon filtration system but we have a garden in our backyard and was wondering if the radon would affect our vegetables?

Radon will not affect your vegetables. Radon is a gas and the solution for high radon levels in confined spaces is ventilation. Outside locations are obviously ventilated. Radon is a noble gas meaning it does not interact with other or many other compounds. https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/ToxProfiles/tp145-c6.pdf Contact the Minnesota Dept of health if you wish more information about radon and safety.
