There are many effective weed management techniques and products for flower beds.

Hand-pulling weeds and then covering the soil with mulch can go a long way toward minimizing annual weeds.

If you have perennial weeds in your flower beds, then targeted use of herbicides can effectively control them. There are many brands available with the active ingredient glyphosphate, which is a broad-spectrum product.

Make sure to protect the plants that you want to keep because the herbicide will damage them too. Use a piece of cardboard or something like that to shield your plants as you spot-treat weeds.

Where you do kill weeds, make sure to install a plant to cover space or mulch to cover bare ground.

I hope that this information helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Are there any herbicides that are specially made for the Pacific north west?

No, there are no herbicides specifically for the Northwest.

The active ingredient glyphosate (mispelled above) works very well if it is applied when the weeds are actively growing. May would be a good time to spray.

thank you for the information. Why may and not now?

The herbicide works best when the weeds are actively growing and the temperature is above 65 degrees F.
