When should I spray the orchard?

Asked February 14, 2018, 6:16 PM EST

When should I spray for pest deterrent? I'm using organic neem, sal suds, and water. We bought a home that has apple and pear trees. They were pruned this month.

Greetings! I'm attaching a "tree fruit bud development chart." You can apply dormant rates through the "delayed dormant" stage (stages 1 & 2), but not beyond that. I strongly advise against using "Sal Suds," as that product is not a registered pesticide and may harm the trees. Here is a link to "Managing diseases and insects in home orchards":

Some of the listed products are organic, and some are not. If you have any questions about the options, feel free to give me a call at 541-344-1709 or email me at Jeff.Choate@oregonstate.edu.

Happy Orcharding!
