Walnut Tree

Asked February 14, 2018, 7:27 AM EST

I noticed a “pooling” of discoloration under my tree this morning. I’ve never seen this before. Could you advise?

I am really unsure of what is causing this. Was it occuring while snow was melting? It could be pooling of substances from decaying leaves like tanins from oaks. Once snow melted could you still see the discoloration. Some trees get a disorder called wetwood that causes a brown discolored sap to flow out of a wound and onto the ground.
