Insect Investation on Japanese Maple

I noticed small white specks on the bark of my Mikawa Yatsubusa Japanese Maple and need help with identification and treatment. Thank You.

This is Japanese maple scale, an insect pest which has become more troublesome the past few years. This is a good time to spray with a dormant oil. Read the label directions carefully and follow the weather parameters. Do not spray when weather is predicted to be too cold.
