Oh-Oh OOMYCOTA

Asked December 20, 2017, 9:17 PM EST

Saw these two little mushrooms growing on my partial shade front hill. From the colors, I'm guessing they are poisonous just to look at (so bright), but I can't find them in any reference including online picture indexes. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place. Size of cap about 1.25-1.5 height approx 3 inches on thin stem. Duration before starting to come apart 3 days, total time about 8 days. These guys are some of the prettiest mushrooms I've seen.

Thank you for your question. Those are pretty mushrooms indeed! Unfortunately, we do not have the in-house expertise to do mushroom identification, beyond the most common wood-decay mushrooms. There are many "look-alikes," and mushroom identification is complex (involving spore prints, etc.). https://extension.psu.edu/identifying-mushrooms

In addition to consulting field guides for general identification (http://americanmushrooms.com/id.htm) we would encourage you to connect with a local mycological association for assistance. http://mawdc.org/
