When to cut down dead asparagus foliage

Asked December 8, 2017, 8:20 AM EST

Hello, My asparagus foliage has turned yellow/brown now that it's December. I haven't cut them down yet and was wondering when the best time to do this was. Should I wait until February/March? Or just do it now? Are there any benefits to doing it later vs now.

Now would be good. We recommend cutting them down when foliage turns yellow and before the berries can fall if they have berries. The fronds are not providing any nourishment after they lose the green chlorophyll. Winter winds could possibly loosen and pull up some roots.
