Skates on grass

Asked December 6, 2017, 11:20 AM EST

My neighbor is building an ice rink in his front yard. Should I be concerned about the neighborhood kids walking across my lawn with their skates on to access the ice rink?

As in any well worn path across grass, the wear and tear and compaction might eventually be evident . The problem should be minimal when the ground is frozen... If that is not the case, the impact could be considerable. Is your neighbor relying on freezing temperatures to keep the rink functioning? If that is the case, you should be ok.
It's too bad he doesn't provide a couple of simple benches for the kids to change into their skates. Traipsing across driveways and streets will ruin their edges!
In the spring, see how the grass looks... You may need to aerate a bit ,topdress and reseed.
