Persimmon Tree Damage (save tree)

Asked December 6, 2017, 10:14 AM EST

I have several Persimmon trees a few that are over 25 years old. In the past week a contractor for a utilities company came into the yard outside of the 10 ft right of way and severely trimmed one of the trees almost to the trunk and topped several branches at the top. I want to save this tree if possible but have no idea where to start.

Right now the only thing you can do is make sure it is as healthy as it can be with some feeding. Apply about 10 pounds of 10-10-10 fertilizer per 1000 square feet. Start at the trunk and come out about 10 feet beyond where the drip line was. Do this now and again some time in February. Just observe it's growth this next summer. Time will tell.
