Can I save my tree?

Asked November 14, 2017, 3:35 PM EST

Good afternoon! A beaver has started chewing our corkscrew willow tree. I have read about putting up a wire cage barrier or wrapping the tree trunk. There is quite a bit of bark missing and a decent size "hole" started. We sprayed the tree with deer repellant hoping to deter the beaver from further chewing. Can our tree be saved? Do we need to treat the exposed trunk? Any info or suggestions are welcome! Thank you, Susan Fenton, MI

First off can you send a picture of the damaged area. In the mean time cover the tree with the wire mesh about 4 inches from the base of the tree and anchor it down. I red to how much damage has been inflicted on the tree. Thanks
